23 Sep 08 – Some of the most challenging work for the Rescue Helicopter involves rescues from vessels at sea.

On this occasion the CHRS helicopter was tasked to rescue a sailor on the ‘Eastern Voyager’, located north of Heron Island, who had suffered a suspected heart attack. Due to poor weather conditions at the time, the crew pre-positioned the helicopter in Gladstone to facilitate a take off at first light.

The helicopter located the vessel at about 6am and after winching down a rescue crewman, an intensive care paramedic and a stretcher, the patient was recovered from the vessel and transported back to Rockhampton.
