21ST JULY – MEDICAL EMERGENCY AT SWAINS REEF: The helicopter was tasked to retrieve a 76 year old male from a fishing boat near Swains Reef, approximately 125nm east of Rockhampton as he had experienced nausea, vomiting, confusion and a loss of coordination. Due to his pre-existing medical conditions, the crew made the decision to evacuate the man from the vessel.

The aircraft flew to an area near Swains Reef where the vessel had moored. A Rescue Crewman and a QAS Intensive Care Paramedic were winched down to the vessel to assist the ill man. After assessment it was believed that the man was suspected to have suffered some form of stroke and was in a very disoriented state. Once the Rescue Crewman was retrieved, the patient was flown back to Rockhampton for further treatment.
