Paramedic Injured On Scene

9/1/19 – Just before 8am this morning, our service was tasked to the Yeppoon Hospital to transfer a patient who had been inadvertently injured whilst attending to the scene of a motor vehicle accident. The patient, who was a Queensland Ambulance Service Paramedic, was assisting the sole occupant of a sedan that had collided with a power pole.

The first responder to the scene, RACQ Capricorn Rescue Service Aircrewman Dave Patterson was on his way to work when he witnessed the sedan collide with the power pole. It was after the driver was extracted from the vehicle and had received initial treatment that the unsecure power pole fell on top of the ambulance vehicle and subsequently impacted a QAS Paramedic causing suspected neck injuries.

The Paramedic was stabilised on scene before, along with the driver of the vehicle, was transported to the Yeppoon Hospital. Rescue 300 was then tasked to retrieve the QAS Officer and transport them in a stable condition to Rockhampton Base Hospital for further treatment.
