Stretcher Winch From Ship

12/9/18 – Around 6.50pm RACQ CapRescue was tasked to retrieve a male onboard a bulk carrier off the coast of Gladstone who was suffering a severe laceration to his right leg. Upon arrival to the scene, the crew elected to perform a stretcher winch off the ship, due to being unable to land. A Critical Care Paramedic and Rescue Crewman was winched onto the ship’s deck where they stabilised the patient before preparing him for the winch.

He was suffering a severe laceration to his lower right leg, which occurred when the patient was performing maintenance on board the ship and a large exhaust fan blade hit the man’s leg. He was initially treated by our on board Critical Care Paramecic before being transported to Rockhampton Base Hospital for further medical attention.
