Colour Me Capricorn Gladstone – A huge success!

RACQ Capricorn Rescue held its first Colour Me Capricorn fun run at the Gladstone Ports Corporation Marina Parklands on Sunday October 11th, 2020. The run featured a 2.5km and 5km distance option for those looking for a colourful Sunday stroll or friendly fun run.

Even the rain could not stop the fun at Colour Me Capricorn Gladstone. The turnout from the community was fantastic with over 250 participants joining in the colourful fun run. Participants ran, walked, danced or strolled their way along the garden paths creating clouds of colour.

“It’s great to see so many families coming out early on their Sunday morning to participate in a colourful and fun event, which also raises much needed funds for the Service,” PR & Community Co-ordinator for RACQ Capricorn Rescue, Kirsty Wooler, says. “The event wasn’t about breaking personal bests but having fun and getting out and about in the community.”

Like most, it has been an extremely tough year for our Service with the cancellation of fundraising events. Colour Me Capricorn Gladstone was the first community fundraising event held by RACQ Capricorn Rescue this year, with all funds from registrations, merchandise sales, and donations raised and purchased going directly to the Service.

Over 40% of RACQ Capricorn Rescue’s funding is contributed by the community through sponsorships, donations, and community events. Our fundraising events are an integral part in continuing our lifesaving work within Central Queensland and we are grateful for the fantastic support we received for Colour Me Capricorn Gladstone from community members and our sponsors.

Colour Me Capricorn Gladstone was proudly supported by Jemena, Gladstone Regional Council, Gladstone Area Water Board, Optima Dental Care Gladstone, Stockland Gladstone, and Rio Tinto Yarwun. Without this level of corporate support, we would not be able to hold such a successful event. A special thanks also to Gladstone Ports Corporation for the use of the Marina Parklands, along with Mount Maurice Rural Fire Brigade, Biniris Gladstone Cleaning, Flexihire Gladstone and Zumba for Fun & Fitness for their additional support.
