Elderly Mount Larcom Bushwalker Winched

Just after 6.00pm, RACQ Capricorn Rescue was tasked to the vicinity of Mount Larcom approximately 40 Miles South of Rockhampton. Initial reports were that an elderly man in his 70’s had been walking up the mountain with family and been on the downhill return trek. The elderly man had succumbed to fatigue and could not negotiate the terrain back down the top of the mountain.

The RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue located the very fatigued man in company of Queensland Ambulance Service personnel about halfway up the mountain and prepared for a winch extraction. The Rescue Crew officer and Critical Care Paramedic were winched approximately 100ft down into the treacherous steep terrain whereby the patient was treated for exhaustion and dehydration. The patient was winched into the aircraft via a rescue harness and taken to Rockhampton Hospital for further treatment. The man was ecstatic to see the RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service and its crew and was in great spirits.
